Acute Neurology

Birmingham

Monday to Thursday, 9 to 5 there should be a neurologist on site at every acute hospital in the region. If you need neurology advice or opinion you should contact them first.

At Friday lunchtime most neurologists are at the academic meeting at UHB; so there may not be a neurologist on site on Fridays. However, it is worth phoning the neurology secretary first prior to contacting the on-call neurologist at UHB.

After 5pm and at weekends, or if there is no neurologist on-site at you hospital neurology advice is provided by the on-call neurology team at UHB. The neurology registrar can be reached through the switchboard 0121 627 2000.

We are now requiring out of hours or off-site referrals to be logged on NORSe. this can be accessed from any NHS computer and can be used by anyone with an NHS emails address.

Terms of service and a guide to using NORSe can be found here.

Brief Neurological Exam

This is a short video demonstrating what we feel are the essential elements of a general neurological examination.

The video was based on protocol published by the AAN and developed through a local Delphi process; approval from 24 experienced neurologists in the West Midlands, so accurately reflects local practice.
